Ход мероприятия.
Teacher: - Good afternoon, boys and girls! I’m glad to meet you again. Today we have a competition which is called “The best at Phonetics”. Many students from different forms are going to participate in the competition. First of all I’d like you to introduce yourselves.
(Учащиеся представляются).
Now let me introduce the jury of the contest.
(представление педагогов).
Teacher: - Children, are you ready to start? I wish you good luck!
The first task is “Read by transcription”. Take the cards and read the words, please!
[ˈgælərɪ] [ˈpælɪs] [skɛəd]
[dɪˈpɑːtməntˈstɔː] [həʊˈtel] [ɪkˈsaɪtɪd]
[ʤɪm] [ˈgærɑːʒ] [ˈtæləntɪd]
[spɔːts ˈsentə] [ˈwʌrɪd] [ˈwʌndəfʊl]
(Учащиеся выполняют задание).
Teacher: - You know that the most important thing in a poem is a rhyme. Take the cards. You can see two columns of words here. Let’s make rhymes.
blue case
money five
love sunny
bite zoo
drive staff
face sea
free door
more light
(Учащиеся выполняют задание).
Teacher: - One more thing that is very important is the mood of a poem. Reciting a poem we must be enough expressive to pass the audience our feelings and emotions. Let’s try to read the poem with different mood. Read it sadly, happily, in horror, dreamly.
Rain
Rain in the rooftops,
Rain on the trees.
Rain on the green grass,
But not on me!
(Учащиеся выполняют задание).
Teacher: - The next task is “Tongue twisters” for those who can speak quickly. Are you ready? Read the tongue twisters.
A big black bug bites a big black bear.
A big black bear hits a big black bug.
Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled pepper
A peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked
If Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers
Where’s the peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked?
Betty Botta bought some butter,
“But”, she said, “this butter’s bitter,
But a bit of better butter
Will make my batter better”.
So she bought a bit of butter
And it made her batter better.
(Учащиеся выполняют задание).
Teacher: - The next assignment is “Make up a poem”. I’ll give you a poem, but the lines of it are cut into small pieces. You should join them to make up a poem.
Summer is over
September comes.
October and November
Are also autumn months.
September is the month
When schools begin,
It’s time to work,
The school bell rings.
Holidays are over,
No more fun
Holidays are over,
School has begun.
(Учащиеся выполняют задание).
Teacher: - And now it’s time to recite English poetry. I think you will agree with me if I say that poetry is very important for us. It enriches us, gives much food for thoughts, brings wisdom in our lives, helps to understand the inner world of a man. So each of you should present a poem you have learnt by heart.

In Antarctica it’s snowing,
And in Mexico it’s hot.
In Japan the wind is blowing,
And in Italy it’s not.
In Brazil the sun is shining,
And in Spain the sky is blue.
In Turkey now it’s raining,
And in Greece it’s raining too.

Many Wonderful Things
Many wonderful things to hear, to see
Belong to you, belong to me!
The sun. the trees, the grass, the sky,
The yellow moon that’s passing by.
The blowing winds, the birds that sing,
Bright autumn woods, gay flowers of spring,
The cold long winter with snow so white,
The running rivers, the stars of night.

The Arrow and the Song
(by H.W.Longfellow)
I shot an arrow into the air,
It fell to earth, I knew not where;
For so swiftly it flew, the sight
Couldn’t follow it in its flight.
I breathed a song into the air,
It fell to earth, I knew not where;
For who has sight so keen and strong
That it can follow the flight of a song.
Long, long afterward, in an oak
I found the arrow, still unbroken;
And the song, from beginning to end,
I found again in the heart of a friend.

My Heart’s in the Highlands
(by R.Burns)
My heart’s in the Highlands, my heart is not here;
My heart’s in the Highlands a-chasing the deer;
Chasing the wild deer, and following the roe –
My heart’s in the Highlands, wherever I go.
Farewell to the Highlands, farewell to the North,
The birth-place of Valour, the country of Worth;
Wherever I wander, wherever I rove,
The hills of the Highlands for ever I love.
My heart’s in the Highlands, my heart is not here;
My heart’s in the Highlands a-chasing the deer;
Chasing the wild deer, and following the roe –
My heart’s in the Highlands, wherever I go.
Farewell to the mountains high cover’d with snow;
Farewell to the straths and green valleys below;
Farewell to the forests and wild hanging woods;
Farewell to the torrents and loud-pouring floods.
My heart’s in the Highlands, my heart is not here;
My heart’s in the Highlands a-chasing the deer;
Chasing the wild deer, and following the roe –
My heart’s in the Highlands, wherever I go.
Teacher: - Our contest is coming to an end. Thanks a lot, dear friends! You have done your best to win. I hope you’ve had a good time. See you soon.
